EYDAP is the leading company in Greece in the water sector and one of the largest in Europe, serving almost 40% of the country’s population, supplying Attica Region with high quality drinking water, sewerage and wastewater treatment services following the strategic pillars of safety, efficiency and care for the environment, people and society. Following the principles of circular economy, EYDAP focuses on the development of new Wastewater Treatment Plants, placing, at the same time, significant emphasis on networks’ maintenance, reuse of recycled water, establishment of a non-potable water network, use of renewable energy sources, transition to electrification and overall digital transformation, in order to achieve zero carbon water.

About the partnership

EYDAP will validate a set of solutions for the recovery and valorisation of water flows to include in different circular symbiotic value chains, for both central and decentralized cases:

  • delivery of the Water Reuse Masterplan in Attica (beyond Eastern Attica) utilising reclaimed water from wastewater treatment plants and Sewer Mining units, investigating also the possibility of augmenting water resources, and the required policy changes and funding solutions.
  • utilization of sludge produced from wastewater treatment plants and Sewer Mining units for the recovery of materials and energy.
  • deployment of decentralised Nature-Based Solutions for the collection and storage of rainwater, from rooftops and/or surface runoff, in urban and peri-urban environment, to mitigate floods and recover water for urban and industrial use.
