Attica Region is a second level local government organization, headquartered in Athens- Greece. It consists of eight (8) Regional Divisions: Central Athens, Southern Athens, Northern Athens, Western Athens, Piraeus, Saronic Islands, Western Attica and Eastern Attica. The urban region of Athens is by far the most populated area in the country. It is the main national centre of economic and developmental activity although, indicators concerning R&D expenditures confirm the relatively disadvantaged position of the region in the knowledge-based economy. Attica Region, is organized by law as a metropolitan region, plans and implements policies at regional level, within its jurisdiction, in compliance with the principles of sustainable development and social cohesion of the State, taking into account the National and European policies on sectors like civil infrastructure, transport & communications, environment & climate change, energy, industry & natural resources, trade & tourism, education, culture & sport, agriculture, farming & fishery, and lastly civil protection.
The Region of Attica will observe and facilitate the implementation of the proposed technologies for circularity, through data provision and governmental procedures administration. ATTICA will contribute to the performance evaluation of the demonstrated solutions as well as with the communication and dissemination activities towards other perspective future beneficiaries of the project outputs.
Ms Mary Miska has a B.Sc. in the Department of Mathematics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), a B.Sc. in the Regional Administration from the National School of Public Administration, a degree in Statistics from the Athens University of Economics and Business and a M.Sc. in Economics (NKUA). She is working since 2007 in the Region of Attica in the Directorate of Planning and Development, where she currently serves as the Deputy Head. She has participated as a Project Manager in various EU-funded programmes.
r. Ioannis Giannopoulos joined the Directorate of Planning and Development of the Region of Attica in November 2023. He has a Mechanical Engineering B.Sc. and M.Sc. studies background as well as a PhD in aerospace sciences. His employment history spans mainly across the military defense sector, while he has also served as a University Senior Lecturer in the UK for a decade. During his academic position, Dr. Giannopoulos was involved in many military and civil aviation research projects sponsored by the UK government, the EU and the commercial industrial sector. He has authored 32 journal and conference publications in the field of aerospace sciences.
